Love by English definition; a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection. By other definition: it is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
Both definitions by human standard would be considered proper. I call it fallacy(fake). The implications of it being an emotion beyond human control, we somehow just have a strong liking towards someone because fate dealt it that way, is deceptive.
By example God has taught us...Love is a choice. He chose to create man, He chose to provide for him. He chose to employ empathy in His dealings with Adam, that's how He noticed Adam's need for a companion. He chose to fulfill this need, it would have been easier to just ignore it. He chose to overlook Adam's discontentment and instead of taking offense He sort a better way to resolve Adam's problem. God created Eve. In love God gave sagacious instruction, "do not eat from the tree". Man allowed himself to be tricked, he ate from it still. In discontentment and disappointment God still gave opportunity for an explanation. Even though the response was appalling, it did not stop Him from noticing the shame Adam and Eve experienced in their nakedness. What seemed impossible to overcome to these frail humans, He overcame by covering them with skin clothes, made after a sacrifice. Millenniums later He still looked to cover our naked truth, that we are wretched and hopeless, by making an ultimate sacrifice. His Son, Jesus Christ, would be the new clothe that would cover our nakedness. The receipt of this clothe...our righteousness. "For God so loved the World that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16 (NIV). He chose to love us.
With that said, my definition of love. The conscious decision to act in manners of affection and total loyalty, indiscriminate of the recipient's values, without expectation of reciprocity. Love is not an emotion, it is a mind set. A commitment you make to learn and understand a person, to value their perspective, to engage in their pursuit for success. A choice you make to be loyal and protect their interests against the world and sometimes themselves. Love demands respect, love demands honesty, love demands consideration. Love demands you, it does not just happen.
So the next time we (you & I) say "I love you", it is my prayer we consider carefully what this powerful four letter word mandates. Let our revelation of this truth as it is in His example instigate proper execution of Love.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another,"
John 13:34 (NIV).
Are you a follower of Christ...how do we know? In my discovery of what love is my deficiencies are evident to me. I realize I have not been a perfect example of what God's love should be like. If you are wondering what am talking about read Part 1 of this series. My prosecutor's definitely have this case against me sealed but I thank God, in His love for me He has provided the greatest Defense Attorney. In my acquittal I get a second chance to be a better person, letting Love Reign. LOVE MAKES MY WORLD GO ROUND!!!
How about you???
Yours Truly,
Penzi Amani
